The Projects That Shaped BHS

At BHS Construction, our milestones are measured in the stories behind every structure, in the trust our partners place in us, and in the communities transformed by our work. As we celebrate 60 years of Building Together, we’re reflecting on the defining projects that have shaped our journey as long-standing partners to the communities in which we live and work.
Each school, church, medical facility, nonprofit center, and local business we’ve helped bring to life has been a reflection of shared vision. These places are where communities gather, children learn, families heal, and ideas grow. What sets our work apart is the commitment to keeping our projects deeply rooted in purpose.
President Patrick Schutter summed it up perfectly when reflecting on some of our milestone achievements:
“Tallgrass Taphouse was one of the most complex projects we've tackled, and it put us front and center right on Poyntz Avenue in downtown Manhattan. Another major milestone was the work we did for Manhattan Ogden USD 383. Seeing how these spaces serve the community is one of the greatest honors of what we do."
Patrick Schutter, BHS President
These projects were turning points in the company’s success. They challenged us, elevated our craftsmanship, and reminded us that the work we do is always about more than the build.

Our team’s dedication runs deep. Ask anyone at BHS, and you’ll hear stories of projects that became personal and stories of teams that pulled together with purpose.
“College Hill Early Learning Center was special. Several of us had kids who would be attending the school once it opened. It brought a deeper sense of purpose to the project, and finishing early so those kids could start right after Thanksgiving was the real win.”
Josh Michal, Project Manager

These are the memories that stick with us the most. The ribbon cuttings and milestones met are exciting, but the quiet triumphs, the personal stakes, the extra care taken because we knew who we were building for are the things we will always remember.
What Defines a Legacy?
For Superintendent John Hill, it’s not a single standout project, but the collective impact of many.
“It won’t just be one building we remember, it will be all the schools, all the churches, all the nonprofits and community projects that matter to the people we serve. That’s the legacy we’re proud to help build.”
John Hill, Superintendent
BHS Superintendent Derek Frasier shares a project that was especially impactful for him:
“A project that is unforgettable for me is the United Bank and Trust remodel in Manhattan. Not only was it a beautiful build, but the relationship that was built with the owners was genuine and something I take pride in. Near the end of the project, one of the owners expressed that they were bummed that the job was wrapping up because that meant we would no longer be hosting our weekly OAC meetings. To be known for quality work or a positive attitude is something to be proud of, but when a client wishes to extend the construction process because they simply enjoy the construction team, that is something special.”
Derek Frasier, Superintendent

At BHS, we’re proud to be part of something enduring, a 60-year tradition of strengthening communities. Every beam raised and cornerstone set has been in partnership with people who trusted us to bring their visions to life.
To our all our partners, past, present, and future, thank you for your trust and commitment to making your communities stronger through thoughtful construction and shared purpose.
