Celebrating 60 Years of Building and Serving Communities Together

In 1965, BHS Construction began with a mission that was simple but powerful: build with integrity and serve with purpose. Sixty years later, that mission is still what drives us, only now, the scale has grown, and so has the impact.

While our portfolio has expanded across commercial, civic, and faith-based projects, the true heart of BHS has never revolved around constructing buildings. It’s always been about the people we build for and the communities we call home. That’s why, as we celebrate six decades of construction excellence, we’re highlighting one of the most meaningful aspects of our work: community engagement.

More Than A Motto

You’ll often hear us say, “Build Together, Serve Communities.” This tagline is at the foundation of everything we do. Every project we take on is grounded in the belief that strong buildings should also help strengthen the lives around them. That’s an idea that we actively invest in.

In 2024 alone, BHS has directed more than $250,000 toward local organizations, events, and initiatives that are making a difference. These contributions reflect our deep commitment to giving back, not just through our work on job sites, but through intentional, sustained support for the causes that matter in our region.

A few of the incredible organizations we’re proud to have supported include:

  • St. Thomas More Catholic Church
  • Manhattan Christian College
  • Riley Pride Fall Festival
  • Just Tri It Youth Triathlon
  • Kansas Science Festival
  • Manhattan Catholic School Picnic & Golf Tournament
  • Wamego Hospital Foundation
  • Big Brothers & Big Sisters
  • K-State Marching Band
  • Manhattan Area Technical College
  • Promenade on Poyntz
  • Meadowlark Foundation
  • Catbackers
  • Girls on the Run
  • Grow Clay County
  • St. Isidore’s Catholic Student Center
  • MHK Young Life
  • Daniel Keating Foundation
  • Ahern Fund
  • Downtown Manhattan
  • Grow Green Match Day

Each of these partnerships represents a connection to something bigger than ourselves. Whether we’re helping fund youth activities, education, health initiatives, or community festivals, we’re investing in the vibrancy of the places we live and work.

Building With Purpose

While financial support plays a big role in our community engagement efforts, it’s just one piece of the puzzle. Our true impact shows up in the projects we build, projects designed to meet the needs of today, while creating lasting change for tomorrow.

Take the Flint Hills Community Accelerator, for example. This ambitious initiative brings together childcare, education, healthcare, and workforce development under one roof. It’s a one-stop resource hub that supports families, businesses, and service providers in a meaningful, future-focused way.

Or consider projects like the CiCo Park Improvements and the Aggieville Redevelopment. These transformational projects enhance the quality of life in Manhattan and surrounding communities, creating welcoming spaces for recreation, connection, and local pride.

We’re also honored to partner with churches and faith-based organizations that play a vital role in building strong, supportive communities. Our support goes beyond the final construction of the building, often supporting the initiatives of our faith-based partners in giving back to their local communities. Previous church projects, like St Isidore’s Catholic Student Center and the Immaculata SSPX Church, as well as a couple exciting upcoming church projects in Manhattan, represent our continued dedication to helping these spaces thrive and grow.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on the last 60 years, we’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, but we’re even more excited about where we’re headed. The future of BHS will continue to be shaped by the values we’ve held from the start: dedication, relationships first, and a commitment to serving others with our God-given talents.

We’re grateful to our clients, partners, and community members who have trusted us to help shape the places they call home. Whether we’re pouring concrete, framing walls, or sponsoring a community event, we’ll keep showing up with the same passion and purpose that got us here.

We are excited to look to the next 60 years of building together and serving our communities, one project, one partnership, and one purpose at a time.
