St. Marys, Kansas

The original Immaculata church in St. Marys, Kansas burnt down due to an electrical fire in 1978, destroying the entire building. After 45 years of waiting, the new Immaculata church opened its doors to its parishioners May 3, 2023.

The Immaculata church is a 66,400 sq. ft. Romanesque style church which seats 1,580 people, triple the size of the original building. Fundraising for this project started after the fire in 1978, but it wasn't until 2017 that drawings and plans began.

The finished church has four levels. The basement includes a parish hall, offices and classrooms. The main floor houses not just an alter and pews, but boasts four side chapels, a reliquary, a baptistry, eight confessionals and the sacristy. Above the narthex is a a cry room, and above that the choir loft with organ. BHS contributed to the coordination of over 300 men and women for the course of two years to complete work on the church.
