BHS Construction is proud to announce the successful completion of the Manhattan Area Technical College’s (MATC) new Advanced Technology Center, officially opened on August 29, 2024. This state-of-the-art facility, spanning 47,000 square feet, will enhance educational opportunities and workforce development in the Manhattan region.
As the #1 ranked 2-year college in the nation by WalletHub, MATC is set to double its enrollment capacity in multiple programs, including Industrial Engineering Tech, Critical Environment Tech, Biomanufacturing, Electrical Power, HVAC, Plumbing, and Construction Trades. This expansion is strategically designed to meet the demands of growing industries in the area, providing students with the skills necessary for high-demand careers.
“Our partnership with MATC has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life,” said Patrick Schutter, President at BHS Construction. “We are committed to building facilities that foster education and economic growth in our community. The Advanced Technology Center is a monumental addition that will have a lasting impact on the region.”
A standout feature of the Advanced Technology Center is its state-of-the-art Biological Safety Levels (BSL) training room, the only one of its kind in the nation. This innovative space allows students to practice microbiological containment techniques, with a unique design that enables controlled “failures” to simulate leaks and breaches. This hands-on experience provides invaluable training for students, preparing them for real-world challenges in the field.
The project is projected to inject between $15-20 million into the local economy, bolstering job creation and regional development. MATC President/CEO James Genandt emphasized the importance of the new center, stating, “By expanding our program offerings and providing top-notch facilities, we are preparing our students for high-demand careers while driving economic development.”
Economic Development Director of the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce, Daryn Soldan, also highlighted the center’s role in enhancing the local workforce: “MATC trains young people, transitioning military personnel, and university graduates. The new Advanced Technology Center will create opportunities for companies to grow in the Manhattan region.”
