That’s a wrap! Wow, what a busy year 2023 was. Throughout the year, BHS contributed over $400,000 in sponsorships and donations to over 90 organizations in Manhattan and surrounding areas. BHS sees the value of investing in their employees, and the communities we work in.
“Supporting our local communities in which all of us at BHS live, work, and worship is very important to us. We know that our communities would not be healthy without the private support of local non-profits that take on the task of fulfilling the many needs in a community. We are proud to participate however we can with these organizations. It is our mission to “Serve Others,” and we enjoy participating with our time, talents, and treasure!” says Patrick Schutter, BHS Construction President.
BHS Construction employees are invested in giving back to their community and being a part of local fundraisers. “One thing I love about BHS is that we are committed to being involved in our community,” says Andrew Gerth, Project Manager. “We participate in almost everything we sponsor. One example is the Young Trustees Chili Cook-Off. Each year we put together a team to compete and raise money for charities across Manhattan and show off our chili-making skills. This year, winning the competition was a great feeling because we were able to contribute even more money to those in need. We not only Build Together, but we also Cook Together!”
Knowing the importance of being involved with community organizations, BHS gives its employees the flexibility to volunteer with organizations. Carrie Alt, Controller at BHS, says, “In my role at BHS, I have had the opportunity to attend events for and engage with many service organizations in Manhattan and surrounding communities. Working for an organization with a mission to ‘Serve Others’ has allowed me to grow my own service to others and realize the growing needs of people in these communities. The impact I’ve seen firsthand has been an invaluable lesson I may not have been aware of without this service priority. BHS supports the people and organizations that care for our neighbors. If we take care of each other, we can build stronger communities together.”
“Working for a company that not only sponsors many great causes but is actively involved within the communities they serve gives me such a great sense of pride. When visiting with community members, I’m often told about the events and youth sports teams BHS has sponsored. You know you are doing it right when you are recognized for the value that you add to the community before anything else,” says Superintendent Michael Katt. It is one thing to simply sponsor a non-profit organization; it is another to be engaged with the organization that is being sponsored and see the impact it has on others.
BHS not only sees the need to give back to their communities but also to their employees. BHS offers a donation match program to all the employees where they will match up to $100 in donations for charity of the employees’ choosing. The sponsorships BHS Construction is involved with have a direct impact on families. “I am very proud to work at a company that has long been committed to supporting the community that supports us,” says Nathan Redeker, HR Director. “It’s great to know that we make a real impact on so many organizations in Manhattan, and surrounding communities.” With an unwavering commitment to social responsibility, BHS looks forward to fostering meaningful connections and making a lasting difference in the communities they serve.
