CiCo Press Box “The Octopus” 1967-2024

On December 26, 2024, the “Octopus,” originally built in the 1960s, was taken down to make way for the all-new concessions building. We honor the legacy of the past while paving the way for the future, we’re building together a healthy community through people, places, and programs.

This marks the beginning of the construction phase for the CiCo Park Improvements Project. You can learn more about this project at www.mhkprd.com/309/Outdoor-Recreation

Skate Park Relocation

BHS Construction is proud to partner with the City of Manhattan to relocate the skate park from CiCo Park to City Park. With the redevelopment of CiCo Park, this move ensures the community can continue to enjoy the skate park in a new, accessible location. Our team disassembled, transported, and reassembled the equipment, and we’re excited to see it back in action this Spring!

March Update: BHS Project Manager, AJ Devlin

Project Manager AJ Devlin shares the latest on the progress at CiCo Park!

Right now, work is underway in the northwest corner of the park, where the new softball field is taking shape. Crews are also making progress on storm sewers and retaining walls.

Over the next few months, you’ll see the complex come to life. We’re excited to keep Building Together and bring this project to the community! Stay tuned for more updates.

Retaining Wall Progress

Exciting progress is happening at CiCo Park!

The crews have been working hard, and the construction of the new retaining wall is well underway. This week’s primary focus is on dirt work and masonry, essential steps in shaping the structure and ensuring long-term stability of the retaining wall.

These improvements are part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the park’s safety, functionality, and overall appearance. We appreciate the community’s continued support and patience as we work to make CiCo Park an even better place for everyone to enjoy.

Ball Fields Progress Update

Check out this quick video update from Parks & Rec Director Aaron Stewart as he shares exciting progress at the CiCo ball field complex! Phase one is moving forward with infield prep for artificial turf, and the warm-up area is taking shape with a base for eight batting cages and five pitching tunnels. Plus, new dugouts are going in for both the future softball and baseball fields. Stay tuned for more updates as construction continues!

Fields Update - Turf!

Exciting progress! Turf is laid on three of the four fields, with the warm-up area also underway. The main building’s exterior walls are up, and the elevator shaft and interior walls for the center structure is beginning.

Tennis Courts, Ballfields, and Center Structure

CiCo Park continues to move forward with exciting progress! Our teams and partners have been hard at work on several key areas that are shaping the park’s new look and functionality.

During the week, crews successfully:

  • Installed the moisture barrier on the 2nd Deck in preparation for the final pour.

  • Poured both tennis court slabs, bringing the new sports areas one step closer to play-ready.

  • Completed backstop netting installation, improving safety and aesthetics around the ball fields.

  • Continued irrigation installation throughout the park’s central structures.

Looking ahead to this week, work will focus on pouring flatwork in the Commons Areas, grading and rock installation, pulling wire to the fields, and painting in the Center Structure. As we head closer towards completion, we’re grateful for the dedication of our subcontractors and the ongoing collaboration that’s driving this community project forward.

Stay tuned for more updates as CiCo Park transforms into a space the Manhattan community can be proud of!

Sod and Concrete

The CiCo Park Improvements project continues to move forward with strong momentum as we begin Week 47. Major flatwork has been completed throughout the commons areas and the upper viewing deck, giving shape to the new gathering and circulation spaces that will elevate the park experience. Landscaping progress is also visible, with Phase 3 sod installation and Phase 4 irrigation work adding fresh greenery and preparing the fields for long-term durability.

Inside the center structure, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations are advancing. Interior wall insulation is in place, preparing the building for future finish work. Recent site photos highlight the emerging viewing deck, upgraded field surfaces, and the ongoing integration of building systems that form the core of the facility.

In the weeks ahead, work will continue on remaining concrete pours, additional sod and irrigation efforts, and further interior progress in the center structure, including door installation and system connections. Design and coordination efforts remain active for playground elements, turf logo planning, and final selections for furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

BHS Construction is proud to support the transformation of CiCo Park. Each phase brings the community closer to enjoying modernized facilities, improved public spaces, and a refreshed destination for families, athletes, and visitors. We look forward to sharing continued progress as the project moves toward completion.
